MBRS RISE and LSAMP Programs
The Minority Biomedical Research Support Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (MBRS RISE) and Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) programs share one goal: Prepare students to pursue post-graduate degrees in the biomedical sciences and other selected fields.
Participants in these programs receive valuable research training and faculty mentoring, attend career guidance and interdisciplinary research seminars, are paid for research activities, and enjoy a number of other benefits.
MBRS RISE Program
The National Institutes of Health/National Institute of General Medical Sciences funds the MBRS RISE Program to advance research training in the biomedical sciences. The Morehouse College MBRS RISE Program consists of the following:
- Freshman/sophomore component: Enhances academic performance in science courses and introduces participants to the philosophy and implementation of research, especially biomedical research.
- Junior/senior component: Provides academic support and preparation for graduate school along with intensive research training experiences that include all aspects of the research experience.
LSAMP Program
The LSAMP Program aims to significantly increase the number of African-Americans earning doctorate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Unifying themes include focused recruitment and retention, required research participation, student financial support and graduate school enrollment.
