2012 Blassingame Award

The John W. Blassingame Award is given in even-numbered years by Southern Historical Association (SHA) to honor distinguished scholarship and/or mentorship in African-American history.

At the 2012 SHA Annual Meeting in Mobile, Ala., Dr. Alton Hornsby, Jr. received the award in recognition of both his scholarship and his mentorship. A number of faculty from the Department helped Dr. Hornsby celebrate the achievement and let him know how proud we all are of his accomplishments and that he continues to participate in Department activities.
