PROGRAM
ACTIVITIES
Swimming
The
objective for our swim program is to teach every camper not only
how to swim, but also safety areas and other techniques for improvement.
Swimming is taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor and is
assisted by two certified lifeguards. The swim program is a crucial
area to NYSP, because without it we could not operate.
Basketball
Basketball is one of the most popular sports activities that we
have here at NYSP. Campers learn many different components of basketball
including dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive and offensive
techniques, rebounding, and many others. Groups are broken into
gender, age, and skill level when drills are taught. Campers participate
in basketball instruction where they will have 90% instruction time
and 10% competition.
Softball
Recreational softball is one of the most widely played recreational
games in the United States. Softball is very popular here at NYSP
and the campers really enjoy it. Campers will learn such objectives
as rules, pitching and catching techniques, base running, sliding,
batting techniques, and many others. Softball is held on the Morehouse
College softball complex and campers participate in softball where
they will have 90% instruction time and 10% competition.
Track
Participants have an opportunity
to learn aspects of a number of track activities that include and
are not limited to sprints, distance work, long jump, and hurdling.
All participants are exposed to the physical fitness development
needed in preparation for competition in all of the activities taught.
During our culmination activities, participants have an opportunity
to demonstrate the skills learned while at camp in open competition
events.

Tennis
The
objective of our tennis program is to expose these campers
to a lifelong sport that they can participate in and improve
their fitness.
Tennis
is offered on Morehouse College's tennis courts. This complex
has a total of 6 courts. Campers learn different techniques
including rules, volley and lob shots, serving, forehands,
backhands, and several others. Tennis is split with volleyball
in the middle of camp.
Volleyball
During volleyball, campers learn such objectives as bumps,
sets, spikes, rotation, passes, and strategy.

Dance
Participants are exposed to the history and evolution of dance
as well as the many styles of dance. Dance is always one of
our highest energy activities as our participants become so
involved in the skills and techniques taught by our dance
instructor.
Participants
are selected each year as dancers who perform in our culminating
activities at the end of camp. |
