Kenneth A. Newby, Esq.

Assistant Professor of Communication/Director of Speech and Debate

Attorney Kenneth A. Newby is the Director of the national award winning Morehouse Speech and Debate program. Under his leadership the program is currently ranked the best parliamentary debate program in the State of Georgia, and the team finished the 2011-2012 season ranked in the top 16 in the nation according to the National Parliamentary Debate Association. During Attorney Newby's tenure as a student at Morehouse in the nineties, he was captain of the team and selected to the Cross-Examination Debate Association (CEDA) All-American Debate Squad.

As a professor, Attorney Newby teaches the Argumentation and Debate Course. His research interests include argumentation theory, history of debate amongst HBCUs, and interdisciplinary preparation for argumentative discourse.

Additionally, Attorney Newby is a practicing lawyer having represented numerous large corporations and financial institutions in litigation for the last ten years. He has also served as a political consultant advising the campaigns of many elected officials throughout Georgia including former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Atlanta City Coucilwoman Joyce Sheperd.
