Strategic Plan
Morehouse College is well underway with its implementation of Strategic Plan 2001-2006, “Enhancing a College of Distinction for the Leaders of Tomorrow.”
The goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan were derived from four aspects of the College’s vision, which embrace the direction in which the strategic initiatives have been placed.
Be Among the Nation’s Finest Liberal Arts
Colleges
Consistent with its mission, Morehouse perennially
leads the nation in producing African American men with baccalaureate
degrees in fields the institution offers. Morehouse has also produced
three Rhodes Scholars within the past ten years—one of only three
undergraduate liberal arts colleges to do so in 2002. By strengthening
the College’s financial base, Morehouse can continue to recruit
and retain the highest quality faculty and students.
Be College of Choice for African American Males
Morehouse enjoys an excellent reputation within Georgia,
the nation and the world. It is ranked #1 by Black Enterprise as the
best college for educating African Americans. Given the relative number
of college-bound African American males as compared to other groups,
the College faces increasing competition for its students. The challenge
will be to meet their rising expectations for first-rate instruction,
an environment responsive to their educational needs, excellent educational
resources, good financial aid and assistantship packages, and comfortable
educationally oriented living conditions.
Continue Emphasis on Leadership Development
Radical changes in American society demand that “a new breed of
Morehouse men” come on the scene. These new leaders must be steeped
in the tradition of their predecessors, but also able to address pressing
contemporary ethical and social concerns. This speaks to the unique mission
of the College to develop students intellectually and ethically for service
to local, national, and international communities. Morehouse works to
produce students who have the knowledge, values and practical skills
necessary to become civic leaders in every corner of our world.
Create an Academic Village
One of Morehouse’s strategic priorities, which is included in both
our Campus Master Plan and Capital Campaign, is the creation of an “academic
village” where the physical environment is a reflection of the
spirit and intelligence of our students and faculty. From providing excellent
customer service to using technology in the delivery of instruction,
the College strives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its
human and physical infrastructure.
