Mission Statement:

The Bonner Scholars Program at Morehouse College seeks to utilize the Bonner Foundation as a philanthropic vehicle for developing and institutionalizing a campus wide service initiative that will perpetuate a culture of service and foster civic engagement.

Since 1992, Morehouse College has been among 25 Institutions of higher learning to receive financial support from the Bertram & Corella Bonner Foundation of Princeton, New Jersey. Morehouse College, through scholarships valued at $4,000 each from the Bonner Foundation, supports 80 students in perpetuity who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Bonner Scholars must render 540 hours of community service annually to qualify for the scholarship. Bonner Scholars have earned the reputation of being among the College’s premiere community servants. Their willingness to work as advocates for positive social change through direct service, commitment to community, and interests in public policy set them apart in the area of student leadership. Bonner Scholars are among the first to volunteer, plan, and develop projects for community outreach. Bonner Scholars are in high demand as the various community partners come to rely on and anticipate their support. Bonner Scholars primarily engage in mentoring and tutoring at the local Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.
