Morehouse College Family,
The Morehouse College Bonner Office of Community Service (BOCS) is officially open. Although Morehouse has a long history of community service, the newly opened BOCS brings fresh ideas to our community service efforts in a variety of ways. For example, BOCS combines the Bonner Scholars, Adams Scholars, Federal Work-Study 7% Initiative, and the Morehouse Mentoring Program/Frederick Douglass Tutorial Institute under one roof. Additionally, we are partnering with a host of established Morehouse community service initiatives including the Brisbane Institute, the UPS Scholars, the National Youth Sports Program, and others.
One of the more creative characteristics of the BOCS is TigerPoints. TigerPoints is a web based volunteer software program designed specifically to help BOCS effectively manage and track our volunteer initiatives. TigerPoints provides BOCS program managers with the event management, tracking, reporting, accounting and communication tools we need to manage our programs as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Another goal of BOCS is servicing faculty members who incorporate service learning into their curriculum and, encouraging others to explore service learning as an opportunity to enhance the learning environment. Faculty enhancement plans call for supporting faculty who currently infuse service learning into curriculum. The BOCS Faculty Brown Bag Series is a forum for faculty to present their service learning projects to the college community. We will have two forums, one in the fall and one in the spring.
BOCS is also sponsoring a Community Brown Bag Series. This forum will allow community organizations who currently have Morehouse students as volunteers to present to the college community the purpose and activities of their respective groups.
Finally, BOCS will join together and celebrate annually the accomplishments of our students and staff and their service work.
The Morehouse College Bonner Office of Community Service is open to perpetuate a culture of service.
