MOREHOUSE ALUMNUS AND FORMER MARTA EXECUTIVE DIES AT 75. |
|
ATLANTA, DECEMBER 19, 2002 - Johnny C. Johnson, former Director of Real Estate with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and Morehouse College Alumnus, died Sunday, December 16, 2001 in his home at age 75. Johnson served as Director of Real Estate for MARTA from October 1972 through July 1991. In that position he was responsible for acquiring $360-million worth of land for the development of the Atlanta rapid transit system. Mr. Johnson later served as Vice Chairman Joint Board of Assessors for the City of Atlanta and Fulton County. Most recently, he served as a real estate consultant. His clients included Clark Atlanta University. Prior to his position at MARTA, Mr. Johnson served as the Executive Director of the Atlanta Model Cities Program in the office of the Mayor from 1992 to 1994. He was also a principle stockholder in the Atlanta Inquirer newspaper. Mr. Johnson is the former regional vice president of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc.; charter member of the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers; charter member and past president of Resurgens Atlanta, a bi-racial civic organization; member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Planning Association; and member of the Georgia Atlanta Housing Development Corporation. He was a member of the 1972 class of Leadership Atlanta and received the Atlanta Business League Award, the Distinguished Service Award in Community Service Empire Real Estate Board, and the Leadership Award from the Butler Street YMCA. Mr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Morehouse College in 1950. He also studied law at LaSalle University Extension and completed the Executive Development Program for the City of Atlanta at the University of Georgia. |
