ATLANTA, August 25, 1999 - All three fall sports teams have compelling subplots that should make for exciting seasons this year.
Anthony Jones takes over the football program after a year as offensive coordinator. He will try to lead the Maroon Tigers, 0-11 last season, back into the win column.
"I enjoy setting goals, competing and winning," said Jones, a former NFL tight end who was a member of the Super Bowl Champion Washington Redskins in 1987. "My goal is to make this a successful program. I think with hard work and dedication, we can get it done."
The soccer team moves into its second full season as an NCAA sanctioned program, and thus will be eligible for the NCAA Division II playoffs. Morehouse, led by head coach Dr. Augustine Konneh, was 7-3-3 last season.
Head coach Willie Hill and the Maroon Tiger cross country squad will go for their fourth consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) title, and the school's fifth overall. Hill, who is also the indoor and outdoor track coach, has led Morehouse to a combined 10 conference titles in all three sports. For more information on the sports teams at Morehouse, contact Sports Information Director James Nix at 404-681-2800, extension 3501.
