MOREHOUSE NAACP BRINGS TOP MODELS TO TOWN FOR BENEFIT FASHION SHOW
ATLANTA, April 19 Ð Several of the country's top male and female fashion models will strut their stuff for a good cause at Morehouse.
The Morehouse Chapter of the NAACP, along with WHTA-FM (97.5) and Tommy Jeans, is sponsoring "Harmony," a celebrity fashion show to benefit the Harmony Movement - a community service initiative to improve deserving after-school programs in the metro areas. "The Study Hall" - located in the Peoplestown section of Atlanta, near Turner Field - is the first after-school program targeted for help by the Harmony Movement.
"We want to focus on those programs that have not gotten any state funding, but are still struggling to make a difference in kids' lives," said Jash'd Belcher, president of the Harmony Movement.
The fashion show - scheduled for 9 p.m., April 24, in the Frank Forbes Arena - will feature internationally known models Boris, Natachia, Will Lemay and Jayson. Celebrity models include WCW Nitro Girls "Tygress" (Vanessa Sanchez), "Storm" (Shamelle Sullivan), and "Spice" (Melisa Bellin); Hot 97.5's La La, "Soul Sista" Ramona Debreaux, Poon Daddy, M&M, Chris Luva Luva and Ryan Cameron. The event will be hosted by Pelle Pelle model Datari, while DJ Mars from Hot 97.5 will provide the music.
Tickets can be purchased in the College's business office, Room 204, Gloster Hall. Advanced ticket prices are $5 for students with proper identification and $8 for all others. At the door, tickets will be $8 for students and $10 for all others.
Founded in 1867, Morehouse is the nation's only historically black, private liberal arts college for men. The College enrolls approximately 3,000 students and graduates 500 each year, conferring bachelor's degrees on more black men than any other institution in the world.
Prominent alumni include Samuel L. Jackson, Academy Award nominee and motion picture actor; Shelton "Spike" Lee, filmmaker and president of 40 Acres & A Mule Productions; Bill G. Nunn III, motion picture actor; and Lerone Bennett Jr., executive editor of Ebony magazine.
