FLAKE,
PULLIAM AND BRANDENBERG MAKE UP
MOREHOUSE'S
FINAL HOMECOMING COURT OF THE 1990'S
ATLANTA, October
5, 1999 - Nailah Larese Flake, a senior economics major at Spelman College from
Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.; Keshia Knight Pulliam, a junior sociology major at Spelman;
and Heather Marie Brandenberg, a senior child development major at Spelman and
a native of Detroit, make up the final homecoming court of the 1990's for Morehouse
College.
The homecoming
court will be honored at the annual Morehouse Coronation at 7 p.m. on Friday,
Oct. 15 in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at the College. The
event takes place during the annual homecoming celebration, "Marching into the
Millennium," Oct. 10-17.
Flake is Miss Maroon
and White 1999. She is on the Dean's List at Spelman and is a member of the
Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, the Golden Key National Honor Society,
and the Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honor Society. She is also a Morgan
Stanley Richard B. Fisher Scholar, a UNCF Siragusa Foundation Scholar and a
member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Also, Flake is
in the Spelman Economics Club and the Morehouse Business Association, and she
has also served as captain of the Morehouse dance team, Mahogany in Motion.
She participates in a number of community service and outreach programs for
the poor and homeless, and also serves as a mentor to young African-American
girls. Flake wants to become a successful investment banker on Wall Street,
and eventually establish a performing arts center in an underprivileged African-American
community.
Pulliam is the
first attendant to Miss Maroon and White. She is an honor roll student and treasurer
of the Eta Kappa chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. As a Bonner Scholar,
Pulliam has worked closely with the Girl Scouts of the USA and the Herman J.
Russell Corp. to establish Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scout troops in the
John Hope Homes and Castleberry Hill apartment complexes.
Most remember Pulliam
for her role as Rudy Huxtable on the long-running sitcom "The Cosby Show." Along
with that, she starred in several television movies, received a People's Choice
Award, several NAACP Image Awards, and is the youngest person ever nominated
for an Emmy Award. Pulliam wants to continue her acting career after graduation
and ultimately write, direct, produce, and star in her own movie.
Brandenberg is
the second attendant to Miss Maroon and White. She has been a member of Mahogany
in Motion and has participated in Morehouse's fall and spring fashion shows,
has held the title of Miss Mays Hall and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc. homecoming court.
A recipient of
the Detroit Compact Scholarship, Brandenberg has worked with the Enrichment
Academy at Dean Rusk Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity and the Marian
Wright Edelman Center. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and
the Kappa Delta Epsilon Education Honor Society. Brandenberg wants to be a public
school teacher and inspire and uplift a community by educating its youth.
All three young
ladies will act as official representatives of Morehouse College at various
community and social functions during the 1999-2000 school year.
Founded in 1867,
Morehouse College is the nation's only historically black, private liberal arts

filmmaker and president of 40 Acres & A Mule Productions; Michael L. Lomax,
