The Leadership Center at Morehouse College hosts an Evening with
Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Douglas N. Daft

ATLANTA, October 6, 2002-Corporate ethics is an ongoing debate and the topic of headlines daily. Now, as part of The Coca-Cola Leadership Lecture Series, one of the top corporate executives in the country comes to Morehouse to talk about the issues and challenges facing global corporate organizations.

Douglas N. Daft is the 11th chairman of the board for The Coca-Cola Company. He has been the chief executive officer of the company since February 2000. He joined the company in 1969 as planning officer in the Sydney, Australia office and moved to Indonesia to serve as assistant to the regional manager in 1971. After leaving the company to start his own business in 1975, Daft returned to The Coca-Cola Company in 1976 and continued his success in various management positions before being elected chairman of the Board of Directors and chief executive officer of the company.

Daft is a native of Sydney, Australia. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of New England and a post-graduate degree in business administration from the University of New South Wales.

The Coca-Cola Leadership Lecture Series is endowed by The Coca-Cola Foundation. The lecture series provides an opportunity for world-class leaders to share insights about contemporary leadership issues as well as the challenges and opportunities likely to confront tomorrow's leaders. A leadership series is held each semester.

The Leadership Center at Morehouse College was established in 1995 with a generous four-year grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation.

Ranked the number one college in the nation for educating African American students by Black Enterprise magazine, Morehouse College is the nation's largest, private liberal arts college for men. Founded in 1867, the College enrolls approximately 3,000 students and confers bachelor's degrees on more black men than any other institution in the world. The College offers 26 majors in three academic divisions: Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Mathematics, and Business and Economics. Morehouse offers a number of programs and activities to enhance its challenging liberal arts curriculum through the Leadership Center at Morehouse College, Morehouse Research Institute, and Andrew Young Center for International Affairs. Morehouse is the only Historically Black College or University to produce two Rhodes Scholars, Nima A. Warfield, who was the first African-American Rhodes Scholar from Historically Black College or University, and Christopher Elders who received the honor in 2001.

Prominent alumni include Martin Luther King Jr., Nobel Peace Prize laureate and civil rights leader; Dr. David Satcher, former U.S. Surgeon General and director of the National Center for Primary Care at the Morehouse School of Medicine; Sheldon "Spike" Lee, filmmaker and president of 40 Acres & A Mule Productions; Maynard H. Jackson, president of Jackson Securities and the first African-American mayor of Atlanta.
