Moses Landrum IV is proof that your heart’s desire never leaves you. After being accepted to Morehouse, Landrum instead decided to attend one of the Ivy League schools. While there, he discovered that his love for Morehouse had not diminished. So he conquered his fear of living in the South and transferred to Morehouse. For Landrum, Morehouse represented the type of man he wanted to be: a renaissance man, able to do a little of everything, well-rounded, down to earth and concerned with the issues facing his community and the world.
Define Yourself.
“I am a driven, compassionate, socially responsible, God-fearing man. I have always been one of only two black males in my class. At Morehouse, you discover a greater appreciation for your own culture. It is a blessing to be educated in a city with the highest concentration of African American students. At Morehouse, I have had the opportunity to get to know other black males from around the country with similar backgrounds. Morehouse calls us to greatness. It is important that there are expectations. You are not permitted to be sub par. It is a greatness that I am reaching for everyday.”
Redefine the World.
“Before coming to Morehouse, I didn’t have as much sensitivity for the unknown. But, the diverse opinions that are analyzed and critiqued in the classroom have allowed me to become a lot more objective. My real learning started at Morehouse, although I have had the privilege to study at other prestigious schools. My interaction with President Franklin and the other professors and administration is invaluable.
“Morehouse is a community. It’s a family. There is an intimacy at Morehouse. Your interest and concerns for other nations and people become so much more intense. Morehouse has allowed me to look at the social and political structures that lead people to make the decisions they make. It has given me a sense of social responsibility, a genuine concern for humanity.”
