and student support services to improve academic performance,

monitored toward holistic student development goals.

- Community Service
Student Development Plan
The Division of Student Services is offering an opportunity
for students to begin designing a student development
plan that is intentional and complimentary to the college
experience. Just
as a student has a four-year academic plan that identifies
which courses must be completed in order to achieve a college
degree, the Office of Student Development offers an integrated
four-year student development plan. The purpose of
the plan is to assist students in being strategic when
deciding and coordinating their campus experiences outside
of the classroom. A student receives assistance in
selecting and coordinating student success programs, student
organization involvement, health and fitness, study abroad
and community service opportunities, and much more while
keeping academics at the forefront. As an incentive
for students to complete a student development plan, students
receive free tickets to plays, operas, and other excursions. The
theme for each year of the student development plan
is:
Freshmen: Self-Awareness/Self-Management
Sophomore: Village/Community
Development
Junior: Campus
Community & Beyond
Senior: Global Leadership
Student Success Programs
The student success co-curricular programs are based
in the social change model, and the programs focus
on the development of the student’s individual, group and
community skills. The learning modules consist of
self-management, communication, leadership, communication,
diversity, and social responsibility.

Co-Curricular Educational Programs
Student Development Leadership Seminar
The purpose of the Student Development Leadership
Seminar is to provide theoretical foundations and
experiential opportunities structured toward personal
growth and organizational effectiveness. This
is the practical study of student development theories. Techniques
used in creating and maintaining relationships in a variety
of learning environments that foster student growth and development
as student leaders are examined. An examination of
ethical leadership, leadership identity model, community
development strategies, personal and group assessment, and
methods for influencing relationships, group living and behavior. Students
interested in serving in a student leadership position
must successfully complete this seminar.
Mentoring
Under the supervision of the Director for Student Development,
the Peer Mentor Group Leader will devote his efforts to
the mentor/mentee relationships. The mentor group
leader is the mediator between the mentee and the Division
of Student Services. The leader is expected to meet
weekly with the mentee(s) in an individual and group setting. Upperclassmen
may participate in mentor groups to provide support and
input. At the end of each semester, peer mentor group
leaders host a social event for the mentor group to celebrate
the end of the semester. The freshmen mentor groups
may complete community service projects together to fulfill
the community service requirement for the Student Development
Program and the Student Leadership Certificate program
offered by the Office of Student Leadership Development.
Community Service
Each student is responsible
for completing community service hours during the freshman
through senior year. The
freshman-mentoring group may choose an organization during
the fall semester for Community Service on-campus or in the
Atlanta area. This organization should be researched
together and a written reflection must be submitted on
the Bonner Office of Community Services Tiger Points through http://tigernet.morehouse.edu. Morehouse
College students must first register and login to TigerNet
before accessing Tiger Points. The mentor group leader
guides students through this process. A main purpose
of the community service project is for civic engagement. Another
goal is for students to make a connection between how the service
project applies to their academic coursework and the Morehouse
College Institutional Values. The social consciousness
of men of Morehouse includes being of service to society.
