ROTC
NAVY
The Atlanta Region Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit
is comprised of two jointly commanded battalions and is sponsored by
Morehouse College and Georgia Institute of Technology. Morehouse is the host for the Morehouse
NROTC Unit; however, students attending Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University
are participating members of the NROTC Unit. The commanding officer,
executive officer, marine officer instructor, and assistant marine officer
instructor preside over the operations and administrations of the NROTC Unit. Additionally,
several active duty Navy and civilian personnel support
the daily operations of the NROTC Unit.
To obtain a NROTC scholarship, interested students
must gain approval to attend Morehouse College, Spelman College or Clark
Atlanta University. Students
must score a minimum 530 verbal and 520 math, with a composite score of no less
than 1050 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The minimum acceptance
scores for the American College Test (ACT) are 22 math and 22 verbal for a combined
score of 44. Students are required to submit a high school transcript for
academic performance evaluation and SAT/ACT scores to the NROTC Unit. All
scholarship applicants will be interviewed by the NROTC Unit Commanding Officer
to determine if applicants are qualified candidates. If a student meets
all scholarship requirements and is offered a scholarship, the student must first
complete and pass a comprehensive medical examination. NROTC scholarship
monies will not be disbursed until applicants have
successfully passed the medical examination.
The NROTC Unit provides and supports academic and individual
growth. It
is our goal to not only instill leadership abilities
in the individual, but also to cultivate a deep sense of pride and promote
continuous self-improvement for all midshipmen.
