Student First Initiative
The Student First Initiative was an outgrowth of the Strategic Planning
effort at Morehouse College during the academic year. The College felt
that if it was to achieve its vision of being “among the best”,
it must take a comprehensive look and improve those services most critical
to supporting the academic endeavors of the student body. Further, there
were several other factors driving the need for improvement.
Such as:
1. The commitment to attracting the best and the
brightest students;
2. The targeted pool of students and the yield from this
pool are declining;
3. The best and brightest students have choices in this
competitive education industry; and
4. The needs and expectations of students continue to
change.
A lengthy evaluation process resulted in the identification of six processes most critical to the College achieving its mission. It was further felt that there must be a flawless execution in providing these processes to achieve the mission.
The six Morehouse College processes identified are: Recruit & Admit, Enroll, House & Feed, Student Development, Graduate, and Alumni. The objectives for each team are as follows:
Recruit & Admit
- Increase number of applicants
- Improve yield rate
- Improve quality of accepted students
Enroll
- Decrease time to complete enrollment process
- Automate all transactional processing
- Improve quality of advisement
House and Feed

The Recruit and Admit team effort has produced significant improvements for the College in its recruitment effort.
