MOREHOUSE COLLEGE STATEMENT OF VALUES

Morehouse College claims certain fundamental principles upon which its entire existence stands. These include an appreciation for the ideals of justice, equality, the humane treatment of all people and the development of the spiritual self and community. Although these standards defy most tools of quantitative measurement, they serve as prime motivators for most of what is done at the college.

The Morehouse College Institutional Values Project is a multi-year project, the focus of which is to develop a sense of community where ethical behavior is exhibited and the individual is treated fairly. During the first year of the project, called "The Year of Dialogue," faculty, staff and students will engage in dialogue about the values considered important to the community and necessary for the achievement of our vision of becoming one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation—period. And the college of choice for African American males.

There is a direct connection of the aforementioned values to the College’s mission of student development and to the vision of becoming one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation—period. The development of shared values among all constituencies is important to ensure that the academic community can flourish, as well as to prepare students for citizenship and leadership.
